This little trophy from a basketball competition years ago might seem insignificant today but for me it’s a powerful reminder.
A reminder of my first real “win”.
For me, it signifies the start of a journey.
One that built confidence and empowered me to realize that hard work, effort and drive can lead to real results. I’ve carried that competitive drive through collegiate sports and on into the business world decades later but it also reminds me that a trophy is only temporary. The award is only for that fleeting moment in time and time moves on, and it moves really fast.
Much like is the Bible’s book of Corinthians, verse 25, in which Paul writes, “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”
In life, the “wins” are the good we do that truly matters. It’s about positive growth, helping others and being a light to those around us.
The trophy doesn’t matter. It’s what we do and the people we help that endures.
So think about this, what are you doing every day to stack up wins that truly matter? Are you wasting time on worthless things instead of making a positive impact?
It’s never too late to take that step in the right direction!
