Stress The Importance Of Communication
You have to develop a culture of communication. To build tech solutions that really make a difference, you can’t have teams in silos that never collaborate and communicate. That’s a surefire formula for failure. It all starts with teams who document well, communicate and allow for consistent input. I can’t stress enough the importance of communication.
Ask A Lot Of Questions Before Beginning
The key is to ask a lot of questions before you head down the wrong path in development. It’s essential to really listen to all stakeholders and narrow their core focus points. You do have to hold firm, though, and ensure balance is achieved. It will help you out as well as everyone else involved. It’s easier said than done, but if all parties are heard, it helps the process immensely.
Encourage Testers To Try To Break The Workflow
You can’t afford to build solutions without getting hands-on feedback from end users as early as possible in the process. Keep your beta test group focused on really trying to break the workflow. Ask for defined feedback, and keep communication flowing. If you’re building an MVP, distinguish between core functionality and “nice to haves.” Resist the temptation to add more and more features too soon.
Simplicity
I think we will see simplicity as the driving focus of UX. I think consumers today intuitively know how to navigate applications without much guidance, so UX design will be more about presenting data and information in a visual manner. Good UX should be centered around removing needless text and allowing the end user to get the information they need as quickly as possible.
Include Helpful Visual Cues And Tutorials In The New Version
It’s important to still give the users the ability to access the prior version for a designated time while making the transition to the new one. The key to success, though, begins with a proper rollout. Visual cues to highlight new features and quick tutorials on how to navigate any big changes can help smooth the user experience. Don’t surprise users without having assistance ready.
Commitment To Overall Company Goals
Today’s CTO must have the ability to really dive in and understand the business beyond the tech side. A good CTO needs to be able to collaborate and come up with creative suggestions that mesh with those of the key leadership group. This requires tech leaders to step outside their siloed department and focus on the overall company goals and mission. The key to this success is communication.
